Andrea von Helms, MS, RD, CD is a registered dietitian based in South Eastern Wisconsin.
She has a passion for helping people who want to lose weight, build a healthier relationship with food, and feel confident keeping the weight off.
Since August 2015, Andrea has helped hundreds of people lose weight. From those who want to lose a few pounds to over one-hundred; from generally healthy to pre- organ transplant and everyone in-between. Andrea loves helping people from all walks of life. No matter where they are or what challenges face them, Andrea provides compassionate support and guidance so they can succeed.
Most often I find that most people know what they need to do to lose weight and eat well. I'm not here to tell you everything you already know. I'm here to help you go from "I just need to do it," to "I'm so glad that I've done it!" Using evidence-based counseling strategies, I can help you will move from thinking about it, to doing it, to did it, to continuing it without worrying about it for lifelong success.
Less emotional eating
Everyone emotionally eats. You may go through periods where you feel like emotional eating is out of control. I use mindfulness techniques, acceptance and commitment therapy techniques, and cognitive-behavior theory counseling techniques to help you build the skills to get through those challenging times.

If you are considering bariatric surgery or already have a bariatric surgeon but want extra nutrition support pre-operatively to have your post-op be that much smoother, I can help. With over 5 years of experience in preparing others for life changing, bariatric surgery, I can give you the leg up on how to prepare and what to know.

I use evidenced based motivational interview techniques to help you build up your confidence and toolbox so you can keep the weight off for years!

Food is incredibly complex. It's nourishment, a source of enjoyment, a way we connect with people, and can be tied to many emotions. It can also be tied to past guilt and pain. I use a person-centered approach, mindfulness, and CBT techniques to help you sort through your beautifully nuanced relationship with food.
After weight loss surgery nutrition
Bariatric surgery is not "the easy way out." Work with someone who understands how hard the work is, the challenges you might face, and what you need nutritionally to keep healthy and strong. I can help you get the most out of your surgery within 1-year post-op. Bariatric surgery is an incredible tool, but it isn't a miracle cure. If you find yourself slipping into old habits, even if you're way more than a year post-op, I'm here to help you. Weight regain after bariatric surgery happens too. You're not alone.
